Athlete of the Month: Paula San José Menéndez
Paula San José Menéndez's outstanding accomplishments on the tennis court garnered her SLU-Madrid's Athlete of the Month award.
The second-year biomedical engineering student stated, "SLU-Madrid has brought me the flexibility to change my class schedules and combine them with my training sessions." Such flexibility has paid off. San José Menéndez has continued to win or place in every tennis match she has entered since April 2013.
"Paula plays intensely, and she's very focused on the tennis court. She strives to become a better player in every practice," said Sports Director César Rioja when reflecting on San José Menéndez's 12-hour weekly training sessions.
Since 2012 she has been a member of the Federación Tenis de Madrid. In 2019 she was invited to play for their premier team at matches throughout Spain. This honor is a step closer to her goal to play for a college team in the United States, a dream of hers since she was a child.
"I would like to thank César Rioja," shared San José Menéndez. "He has always been very supportive and has always tried to help me to achieve my tennis goals."
