SLU-Madrid Marketing Class Participates in Madrid-London Exchange

Emilio Velasco, Ph.D., and Gonzalo Moreno, Ph.D., marketing professors at Saint Louis University—Madrid, organized a hackathon in collaboration with Fordham University London. The project focused on product sustainability to prepare students to create real-world solutions.

In a semester-long project, SLU-Madrid welcomed Fordham University London students in late February to work in groups on environment-themed initiatives. A climate-friendly winery came to campus to discuss the wine industry. The wine producer representatives explained how the company transformed a mine into a vineyard.

Two months later, SLU-Madrid's marketing strategy class traveled to England where they presented their product mockups. Some sustainable items included cosmetics, shampoo-bottle design and food-waste services.

While there, students visited a local, sustainable fashion factory that works with world-known brands like ASOS, Louisa Parris and Matthew Williamson.

The Fordham-SLU teams received feedback from professionals while in London. A panel of judges chose a winner, a sustainable lipstick concept.
