Research Interests

Hadi Ali Akbarpour is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Saint Louis University. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal (2012). With a passion for interdisciplinary exploration, his research interests lie at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision, specifically in the context of autonomous systems, remote sensing, and robotics. Dr. Akbarpour has contributed to a range of funded projects, assuming roles as a Principal Investigator ($1.1M), co-PI ($8M), and proposal developer and task leader in SBIR tech-transfer projects ($6M) across various government and industry funded research initiatives. His publication portfolio comprises more than 70 contributions featured in high-impact conferences, journals, and books. Moreover, he holds several pending and issued U.S. patents, reflecting his dedication to innovation. His efforts has been recognized through numerous prestigious awards, particularly in categories such as best papers, presentations, and challenges. Dr. Akbarpour co-chaired the 51st IEEE Applied Imagery Pattern Recognition and was a co-organizer of the "Analysis of Aerial Motion Imagery" Special Session at the 2022 International Conference on Image Processing (IEEE-ICIP) held in France. He was a Guest Editor for the Sensors Journal in in 2021, contributing to a special edition centered around Object Tracking and Recognition.
