Research Interests
Dr. Hasenmueller’s research addresses key environmental challenges by examining water-soil-rock-interactions in both natural and human-altered systems. Her work places a strong emphasis on water quality, with particular attention to understanding the sources, transport, and fate of contaminants in surface water and groundwater systems. She is especially interested in how hydrologic and geochemical processes operate within complex environments, including karst landscapes, where rapid groundwater flow and distinctive subsurface drainage strongly influence contaminant transport mechanisms. Through field-based studies conducted across watersheds with diverse land use practices, her research provides valuable insights into how environmental processes and human activities affect water resources. This integrated approach advances our understanding of watershed function and supports improved water resource protection, environmental management, and sustainable environmental practices.
