Koyal Garg, Ph.D., associate professor of biomedical engineering at Saint Louis University, received a grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS).
Dr. Garg received a $1.1 million grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Deseases (NIAMS). The project, entitled “An Intelligent Biorobot for the Regenerative Rehabilitation of Volumetric Muscle Loss Defects,” is a collaboration with Cleveland State University. Dr. Garg, co-investigator for the project, will serve as SLU’s principal investigator.
Dr. Garg's research explores ways to improve the regenerative and functional capacity of skeletal muscle following traumatic injuries. Her research interests include stem/progenitor cells, extracellular matrix-based biomaterials, immunomodulation, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation. She is the principal investigator for the Musculoskeletal Tissue Engineering Lab at SLU.
About the School of Science and Engineering
Saint Louis University formed the School of Science and Engineering in 2022 to better meet the future needs of its students and faculty. The school brings together select departments from the College of Arts and Sciences — chemistry, computer science, earth and atmospheric sciences, and physics — with the former Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology.
