SLU 101 Checklist: Summer Orientation
SLU 101 is the first thing you'll officially do as a Billiken. It's a pretty big moment, and a packed two days. You'll meet your SLU 101 leader — an upperclassman who will show you around — and your academic advisor, and you’ll and spend the night in a residence hall.
You, and your family if they're here too, will receive the full schedule of events when you arrive on campus, but here are just a few things to plan on:
Get Your ID
Hope you like your picture because you'll be seeing it a lot. You use your SLU Card to access buildings, park, pay for food and even bank. Stop by Room 33 in SLU's administration building, DuBourg Hall, to get yours. Make sure you have a photo ID with you.
Visit the Bookstore
If you haven't already noticed, people around here wear a lot of “SLU blue.” We're Billikens and proud of it, so stop by the Barnes & Noble in Busch Student Center to pick up some Saint Louis University spirit.
Sample Food on Campus
Grand Dining Hall is open during SLU 101 and so are a lot of other SLU staples, including St. Louis Bread Company (you might know it as Panera), Einstein Bros. Bagels and Starbucks. Explore all of SLU's dining options.
Participate in SLU Traditions
Trivia Night — it's a St. Louis thing, and you're going to love it. If you haven't already made friends at SLU, your trivia night team is the place to start. After, plan on hanging out in Reinert Hall for pizza, karaoke and games.
Swing in a Hammock
What's the best view of SLU? We're partial to the ones you get reclining on the Quad, swinging in the summer breeze. You won't have a ton of free time during SLU 101, but If you spot an available hammock, grab it and a friend. SLU hammocks are big enough for two.
Plan Your Schedule for Fall
Don't worry, you don't have to decide on your own. You'll meet with an academic adviser from your academic program to help you decide what to take freshman year. If you are interested in becoming a health professional or attending law school someday, there are info sessions for that, too.
Try Out SLU's App
Right now your favorite feature will probably be the campus map, but eventually you can use SLU's app to see your class schedule, grades and even if there is a washer or dryer available when you're doing laundry. Download the app.
Take a Selfie
Pose in front of College Church, with the Billiken statue or under one of SLU's iconic gates. #BeaBilliken #SLU101
SLU's ITS team is on hand to help you connect all of your devices to SLU's wireless and residence hall networks. They can also answer all your questions about what kind of laptop and other devices you'll need on campus. And if you run out of time to check this off your to do list, don't worry ... this service is also available during Fall Welcome.
