City Garden Montessori

City Garden Montessori School delivers innovative public education by combining the Montessori model with a strong commitment to anti-biased and anti-racist principles. Serving students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, Saint Louis University has sponsored City Garden since its founding in 2008.

Mission and Vision

City Garden exists to redefine education by developing the whole child in an excellent, inclusive Montessori school; to reimagine community by creating spaces and systems that help to restore our collective humanity; and to reinvigorate our world by creating a culture in which individuals and communities thrive without disparities or barriers to success.

In the process of nurturing our students to be competent, creative, lifelong learners who practice compassion, respect, nonviolence and sustainability, we will strengthen families, the neighborhoods we serve, and the City of St. Louis as a whole.

SLU's Sponsorship

The School of Education at Saint Louis University is proud to sponsor City Garden Montessori School. As a charter sponsor, SLU provides oversight, accountability, and support to ensure the school meets high standards of academic quality, equity, and organizational effectiveness.

Key Agreements

As part of its sponsorship, SLU maintains two foundational contracts with City Garden Montessori School:

• City Garden Public Charter Contract
• CIty Garden Performance Contract

Together, these agreements establish a framework for transparency and accountability in the partnership between SLU and City Garden Montessori.

Evaluation

Through the Policy Research in Missouri Education (PRiME) Center at Saint Louis University’s School of Education, SLU conducts regular evaluations of its sponsored public charter schools. These evaluations provide accountability to the public and school community, highlight strengths and areas for growth, and document the impact of the school's work with students and families.
