SLU LAW Students Bring Home Awards in National Competitions

From first place in a writing competition to placing in the USPTO Patent Drafting Competition, this semester has brought many successes back to Scott Hall.

Third year student Clayton Larue, Ph.D. won the American College of Legal Medicine's Orr Post-Doctoral Writing Competition with his article titled "Nutritional Fortification of Food: A Commonsense Approach to Help Combat Malnutrition Enhanced with Modern Plant Biotechnology." The article was written as part of Dr. Michael Sinha's course FDA Law and Policy.

The Orr Writing Competition is an annual competition sponsored by the American College of Legal Medicine (ACLM) that provides an opportunity for any post-doctoral attorney or health professional enrolled in full-time studies to present their research on topics related to legal medicine.

First year students Matt Carr, Hansoo Song, Connor Peper, and fourth year part-time student Trevion McGhaw were invited to compete in the regional United States Patent Office Patent Drafting as part of the Patent Drafting and Prosecution class with adjunct Professor Joel Gotkin. The competition, where the students placed 3rd,  provides students an opportunity to develop patent skills by applying legal principles to a hypothetical invention scenario.
