School of Law Adds Attorney Daniel Sheffner to Faculty

Saint Louis University School of Law is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Sheffner to the faculty. Sheffner’s background and expertise will further strengthen the school’s Legal Analysis, Research, and Communications (LARC) program, combining a distinguished record of legal writing with practical government experience that will enrich students’ development as effective legal researchers, writers, and advocates.

Sheffner joins the faculty from the Missouri Department of Revenue, where he served as associate counsel in the transportation section of the General Counsel’s office. He has served most of his career in government agencies, having been a staff attorney at the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, a legislative attorney for the Congressional Research Service at the Library of Congress, and an attorney advisor for the Administrative Conference of the United States.

“We are delighted to welcome Daniel Sheffner to the SLU LAW faculty,” said Dean Twinette Johnson. “His research, deep understanding of administrative and regulatory law, and commitment to legal education will strengthen our LARC program and enrich our students’ academic experience.”

In his past roles, Sheffner has prioritized writing and research, focusing primarily on administrative law, regulatory process, and federal agency governance, with a particular attention to agency adjudication, rulemaking, transparency, and the relationship between Congress and the executive branch agencies.

“I am immensely honored to join the Saint Louis University School of Law faculty. Proficiency in legal analysis, research, and oral and written communication is vital for success in every field of law,” said Sheffner of his appointment. “A proud SLU LAW graduate, I look forward to working with my exceptional LARC colleagues to prepare the institution’s students for impactful and fulfilling legal careers."

Sheffner graduated with his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law and received his B.S. from Truman State University.
