Ale Uchitelle ('26) Announced As Prestigious 2026 Equal Justice Works Fellow

Recent Saint Louis University School of Law graduate Ale Uchitelle has been named an Equal Justice Works Fellow, serving at ArchCity Defenders for the two-year program.

Founded in 1986, Equal Justice Works is a nonprofit organization that brings together an extensive network of law students, lawyers, advocates, legal services organizations and supporters to promote a lifelong commitment to public service and equal justice.

Uchitelle will serve a two-year fellowship at ArchCity Defenders, a holistic legal advocacy organization based in St. Louis that aims to combat the criminalization of poverty and state violence, especially in communities of color. She is in a class of 60 fellows working across 21 states that have designed projects to bridge the gap in the justice system and bring legal aid to those who need it the most. Over the course of the program, each fellow will serve clients, provide advocacy, and build relationships with their community.

“ArchCity Defenders’ commitment to the abolition of the prison industrial complex drew me to the organization and informed my fellowship project,” said Uchitelle. “During my time as an intern with ArchCity, I observed how municipal police, prosecutors, and courts continue to develop new strategies to extract wealth from poor, Black St. Louisans and keep them in poverty. As an Equal Justice Works fellow, I hope to do my part in disrupting this abusive scheme. I would like to thank ArchCity Defenders, Equal Justice Works, my sponsors, Lisa Foster and Alan Bersin, and my community at Saint Louis University School of Law for making this opportunity possible for me.”
