Practice Areas

Brett Jagger, M.D., specializes in general infectious disease, transplant infectious diseases and infectious disease tele-medicine.He diagnoses, treats and manages infections for hospitalized patients, through direct patient care as well as collaborating with attending physicians. His goal is to listen to patients and provide them with the most appropriate and effective medical care to help them lead their best, healthiest lives.

Jagger's medical interests include respiratory viral infections, emerging infectious diseases and HIV infection.

Research Interests

Jagger is interested in the translational and clinical development of vaccines against viral respiratory pathogens. His lab is conducting pre-clinical investigations of candidate influenza vaccines in order to address the key challenges in the field, including:

  1. Improving breadth of protection against different influenza strains
  2. Optimizing vaccine responses among the elderly and immunocompromised
  3. Preparing for the next influenza pandemic
To accomplish these aims, Jagger's lab is evaluating new vaccine technologies and adjuvants in murine model systems, as well as leveraging the current and previous efforts of the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Consortium.

Jagger also leads respiratory virus vaccine clinical trials at the Center for Vaccine Development, and he is interested in controlled human infection studies at the SLU Extended Stay Research Unit.
