Research Interests
Rama Krishna Vankayalapti’s research interests include human immunology and host interactions
with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb).
His laboratory is studying the role of natural killer cells in human Mtb infection
and HIV+ children with latent tuberculosis infection. The laboratory also developed
mouse models to understand immune responses to Mtb infection during diabetes and alcoholism.
Vankayalapti is a U.S. Principal Investigator of Regional Prospective Observational Research in Tuberculosis (RePORT)-India consortia. This study will leverage the large lndo-NIH investment and TB/HIV research consortium of RePORT-lndia, which has developed cohorts of TB cases and household contacts in India and has paired Indian investigators with U.S. investigators at six sites. He is also member of RePORT-lnternational consortium.
