Saint Louis University School of Medicine's Division of Hospital Medicine provides comprehensive medical care for hospitalized children, serving as a vital link between families and care teams. 

An Approach Rooted in Family-Centered Care

The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine emphasizes clear communication, collaborative decision-making and advocacy for the highest standards of care at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Hospital admission can be a stressful experience for both children and families, and the division team offers compassionate, evidence-based care and support that extends beyond the hospital stay.  

The team works with purpose, diligence, enthusiasm and respect, and it prioritizes building a diverse workforce that best reflects the patients and families it serves.  

Key Services 

  • Prioritize patient advocacy and family-centered care
  • Lead multidisciplinary inpatient care teams
  • Co-manage medically complex cases through collaboration with surgical specialists
  • Provide moderate sedation for both inpatient and outpatient procedures
  • Designate faculty to serve as clinical leads and manage inpatient flow
  • Supervise and mentor medical students, pediatric nurse practitioners and residents
  • Develop innovative teaching programs and curriculum 

Meet the Faculty

Pediatric Education and Mentorship

The division is deeply committed to education for both undergraduate and graduate medical students. Its faculty, which includes leaders of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program, the Pediatric Residency Program and the Pediatric Clerkship, provides mentorship, specialty advising, bedside teaching, structured didactic sessions and curriculum oversight.  

The division’s commitment to education also extends to faculty. Physicians can:
