Division of Pediatric Psychology

Saint Louis University School of Medicine's Division of Pediatric Psychology offers specialized, family-centered care, using the principles of behavioral science to maximize the overall health of children, adolescents, young adults and families.

Helping Children Thrive

The Division of Pediatric Psychology promotes the health and well-being of children, adolescents and young adults through four key pillars:

  • Evidence-Based Care: Providing services that support social, emotional, behavioral, cognitive and academic needs.
  • Education: Training future health care and psychology providers.
  • Research: Conducting studies that inform and improve clinical practice.
  • Advocacy: Participating in efforts that empower children and families to thrive.

Pediatric psychologists play a critical role in delivering exceptional care to youth who experience chronic or acute medical issues. Division experts specialize in holistic clinical services that help families adjust to new medical diagnoses, adhere to treatment plans, and manage and cope with challenges around complex and painful procedures.

Consultation and Liaison Services

Pediatric psychology inpatient consultation services support patients’ emotional, behavioral and developmental needs during hospitalization. Acting as liaisons between medical teams and families, psychologists enhance communication and facilitate understanding, serving as bridge care from inpatient to specialty outpatient clinics.
