Goal Six: Leadership and Organization

Saint Louis University's School of Medicine will achieve its educational, research, clinical and service missions with a supportive culture and effective leadership, while being an excellent steward of its people and resources.

Objectives

  1. Increase philanthropic support of the School of Medicine.
  2. Create organizational infrastructure that promotes transparency, accreditation, professionalism, accountability, shared governance, wellness and stewardship.
  3. Ensure the SOM has strategic, visionary leaders that advance its mission.

Strategies

  1. Development
    1. Develop and execute a capital campaign. 
    2. Strengthen corporate and foundation engagement. 
    3. Establish defined SOM development organization accountable to the dean.
    4. Establish "engagement" protocols between SSM and SOM.
    5. Engage faculty to identify and engage with donors. 
    6. Strengthen SOM alumni communication and database.
    7. Issue SOM annual report for potential donors and alumni, e.g. "Grand Rounds."
  2. Organizational Infrastructure
    1. Create a SOM clinical faculty manual. 
    2. Update SOM constitution and bylaws.
    3. Create a clinical track for faculty promotion. 
    4. Ensure SOM policies and procedures are up to date and posted.  
    5. Develop workload policy. 
    6. Update SOM webpage to include administrative offices.
    7. Build communication and engagement between SLU and SSM faculty and staff.
    8. Create an Office of Graduate Studies. 
    9. Develop SLU-SSM professionalism standards and training.
    10. Prioritize financial resource allocation.
  3. Leadership
    1. Fill all department chair positions. 
    2. Create an internal leadership pipeline. 
    3. Develop retention strategies for faculty and staff. 
    4. Create professional development programs. 
    5. Develop medical education certificate program and academy of medical educators.
