Undergraduate Research Award

The Saint Louis University School of Science and Engineering undergraduate research award provides financial support for students to present their research at local, regional, national and international conferences.

A student researcher stands in front of giant letters that read BMES.
The award helps students attend and present at academic conferences.

Research at the SSE isn’t just something students do to put on a resume. It’s something they do to transform what they’ve learned into real-life impact. That’s why the SSE offers monetary awards to assist SLU students who have been selected to present at local, regional, national, or international conferences with their travel expenses.

Awards are available up to $350 for oral presentations and up to $300 for poster presentations.

Award Guidelines

Here’s what you need to know when applying for the undergraduate research award:

  • You can apply for the award when you receive the notification of an accepted proposal.
  • You must be attending the conference in person (virtual attendance/virtual conferences are not eligible).
  • The funds provided by the SSE dean's office can be combined with other funding support, including support provided by research grants, faculty mentors, departments or other student groups.
  • Award amount may not exceed the expenses associated with conference attendance.
  • Students may apply for a travel award for each conference at which they attend and present.
  • The travel awards process is guided by SLU's Travel and Reimbursement Policies as governed by the Central Processing Center.
