Interlibrary Loan

Saint Louis University Libraries use ILLiad to enable users to place, track, and keep a history of interlibrary loan and document delivery requests. After creating an ILLiad account, users can request books, articles, and other materials not available at any of the SLU libraries by completing the appropriate electronic form.

Frequently Asked Questions

I need to use interlibrary loan for the first time. Where do I start?
If you are a student, faculty or staff in the SLU schools of medicine, public health, allied health, nursing or CADE, start on the Medical Center Library website. You can choose interlibrary loan under the “frequently searched” section or use the links above. Fill out the form with your information, and once ILL staff approve your access, you will be able to make and receive requests.

I work for SSM Health but I am also faculty/resident/fellow at SLU. How do I log in to ILLiad?
If you work for SLU or are a resident or fellow, you must only use your SLU credentials to log in. As a SLU user, you are guaranteed access to all our electronic holdings without having to request an interlibrary loan. If you are unsure of your SLU credentials, contact ITS for assistance.

If you work only for SSM you may register using your SSM email. Please note: if you work for SSM in a place other than the St. Louis Metro area and are not part of the EBP Fellow and Mentor group, we will not be able to provide you with access. 

I need multiple chapters of a book that isn’t available through SLU.
It is possible for us to borrow multiple chapters instead of a whole book. However, if the number of pages exceeds 10% of the whole book, then we will have to order the entire book due to copyright and licensing restrictions.

I want to borrow a whole book, but I’d like an electronic copy instead of a physical one. 
Unfortunately, we are unable to borrow whole eBooks. We are happy to order a physical copy for you to pick up at the MCL if there is one available.

Oh no, I had an article delivered to my email a while ago and I can’t find it now! What should I do?
You can send an email to hsclar@slu.edu and ask us for help locating that article from your history. If we can’t find it for some reason, you can always submit another request for the same article.
