Summer Undergraduate Research Program

The Summer Undergraduate Research Program introduces vibrant new minds to Saint Louis University’s scientific community. Established by the Office of Ignatian Mission in Medicine, the program supports the School of Medicine’s academic mission and furthers its efforts to recruit and retain students from varied backgrounds and experiences.

About the Program

The eight-week, in-person Summer Undergraduate Research Program is open to rising sophomore, junior and senior undergraduate students who are passionate about science and curious about pursuing an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. path. As a cohort, participants learn together through interactive workshops, seminars and activities. 

The research program takes place on the Saint Louis University School of Medicine campus. Campus housing is available; for more information, email the Office of Ignatian Mission in Medicine at somimm@health.slu.edu.

How to Apply

The application deadline for the 2027 Summer Undergraduate Research Program is January 24, 2027. 

Eligibility

  • Rising sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate
  • Minimum 3.20 cumulative college GPA

Application Requirements

  • Program application
  • Official college transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Current resume
  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a college/university faculty member or advisor)
  • Essay (500-750 words) answering the prompt: Why do you wish to participate in the SLU SOM-OIMM Summer Undergraduate Research Program?
