Data Access and Image Transfer

Naming Convention

RMHC requires use of a specific naming convention.

Required Format: YYYYMMDD_PILastName_User_Experiment-Identifier
- No spaces or dashes
- “Experiment-Identifier” to be determined by the individual researcher

Failure to use this naming convention will likely result in data loss and/or fees from facility personnel.

Data Upload

On the desktop of each microscope computer, there is an icon that allows access to the RLEM (formerly RMHC) FTP server. Double-click this icon to upload your images.

Data Retention Policy

FTP Server (Short-Term)
- Backups: Data uploaded to the FTP server is backed up every hour to an AWS S3 bucket.
- Removal: Data is retained on the FTP server for seven days and then automatically deleted.

AWS Storage (Long-Term)
- Long-Term Transition: Data stored in AWS is converted to long-term storage after 30 days.
- Retrieval: Data can be retrieved from AWS or made available on OMERO (Billikenscope) upon request to facility personnel.
- Purge Option: Principal investigators can have data purged from AWS upon request to core facility personnel.
- Billing: Principal investigators are billed monthly for (affordable) AWS storage.

Data Retrieval

Retrieval Methods:
- Retrieve data from the sFTP service using the CLI or a GUI client such as FileZilla.
- Retrieve data via SMB through the network tab of Windows or Apple devices.

- sFTPserver IP address: sftp://10.140.233.10
- Username: scopeuser
- Password: see facility personnel

Note: The sFTP server can only be reached when you are behind the Saint Louis University firewall. When working off campus, you must join through GlobalProtect (Palo Alto). See your IT administration for more information.

Workstations

Workstations are integrated with the sFTP/SMB server, ensuring convenient access to processed and analyzed data for archiving and further use.

Linux Workstation (Huygens): Log in with the username “scopeuser”
Imaris Workstation: Defaults to correct login — no additional credentials required
