Trauma and Acute Care Surgery

Saint Louis University School of Medicine's Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery cares for critically injured patients at an American College of Surgeons (ACS)-verified Level I trauma center serving Missouri and Illinois.

Offering Life-Saving Surgical Care

The Division of Trauma and Acute Surgery offers high-quality, compassionate care for ICU patients from all surgical specialties. The division’s multidisciplinary team includes nurses, therapists and subspecialists, all of whom assist with round-the-clock emergency services. They operate out of SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, a Level I trauma center and tertiary care referral center.

The division offers surgical critical care fellowship training. Additionally, it maintains a close relationship with the Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (C-STARS), an Air Force medical training program, which provides service members with additional training in trauma and ICU care before deployment. This includes personnel from nursing, ancillary service, primary care and surgical specialties.
