CNE and CME
During the start of the pandemic, Saint Louis University Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing took the steps needed for the safety of our speakers and participants as we planned our events in a live virtual platform. We maintained that through the 2020-2021 Advanced Practice Nursing Conferences. We will continue to record our offerings as we return to in-person events. Those registering for our events will indicate if they plan to participate in person or view the recorded conference afterward. It is important that we offer the latest Advanced Practice Nursing education in a manner that is most comfortable for all.
Please contact Stacy Lobello at stacy.lobello@slu.edu or Lori Owens at lori.owens@slu.edu for general registration questions.

Medical Marijuana and Mental Health
Rick Yakimo, Ph.D., APRN, PMHNP-BC
Marijuana and its products are now legally available for medical purposes in 38 states and recreational use in 23 states. Subsequently, people are increasingly employing marijuana for physical and mental health issues and consulting health care providers about optimal use. Unfortunately, the clinical therapeutic and outcome literature is in its beginning stages, fragmented, and incomplete. This presentation will review the extant literature on the effects of marijuana on mental health conditions in terms of risk, protective, and therapeutic factors. Three questions will guide the review:
- What do we currently know about the effects of marijuana on mental health?
- What is the quality of what we know?
- What do we need to know?
Implications for research, practice, and education will be discussed.
