Michael Rozier, S.J., Ph.D., Receives 2020-2021 Terry Leet Teaching Award

Each year, students in the College for Public Health and Social Justice have the opportunity to nominate a faculty member who exhibits the qualities of the beloved Dr. Terry Leet. From the many exceptional teachers nominated, one faculty member is selected.
The 2020-2021 recipient of the Terry Leet teaching award is Michael Rozier, S.J., Ph.D.
Dr. Terry Leet was a faculty member at the Saint Louis University School of Public Health for more than ten years. He battled Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and passed away on April 29, 2009. Dr. Leet was a gifted leader and researcher, but he was best known for his extraordinary ability to distill complicated information into simple concepts. He was considered challenging yet fair, fastidious yet down to earth. Dr. Leet left a legacy of teaching excellence, which the College honors every year at graduation by recognizing the College Teacher of the Year.
"I am grateful to be at SLU, where students and faculty can hold each other to high standards in the classroom. As a student myself, I was blessed with amazing professors,” Rozier said. “Whatever good I absorbed from them over the years, I'm happy for the opportunity to pass it on.”
Dr. Rozier, an assistant professor of health management and policy in the College for Public Health and Social Justice, teaches Ethical Leadership in Health Management and Policy, Introduction to Global Health, and Ethics of Health Organizations and Health Policies.
According to one student who nominated Dr. Rozier for the award: “Dr. Rozier is one of those rare people who can make a distinction between 'people' and their 'ideas.' He treats all people with fairness and respect while simultaneously challenging their ideas when appropriate. In Dr. Rozier’s class, all people and their experiences are equally valid; all ideas are not.”
