French - Intermediate, Microcredential

The Saint Louis University microcredential in intermediate French consists of 6 credit hours. Satisfactory completion of the required courses allows the SLU student to develop the skills to conduct intermediate-level communication in French by acquiring appropriate vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, listening comprehension, speaking capabilities, and an introduction to French-speaking culture.

SLU's microcredential in intermediate French aligns itself with all other programs in the Department of Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures in that it is designed to help students gain a broader understanding of themselves, as well as the languages and cultures of others. This inherently fosters an understanding and appreciation for diverse perspectives and represents a crucial virtue in today's globalized world.

Admission Requirements

For current, active Saint Louis University students wishing to declare a microcredential, complete the Update for Student Curriculum Record form. 

For non-Saint Louis University students, click here to apply as a Visiting/Non-Degree Seeking Student. 

Continuation Standards

Students are expected to earn a grade of "C" or better in each required course. Students who do not achieve the "C" or better grade in a required course will be expected to repeat the course in an attempt to achieve the "C" or better grade. Students may repeat a required course one time. Failure to achieve the "C" or better grade after one repeat attempt will have the student dismissed from the microcredential in Intermediate French.

Both FREN 1020 Communicating in French II (3 cr) and FREN 2010 Intermediate French Language & Culture (3 cr) are regularly offered at Saint Louis University and Saint Louis University-Madrid. Thus, a SLU-St. Louis student may complete the microcredential in intermediate French at SLU-Madrid (partially or entirely), and a SLU-Madrid student may complete it in St. Louis (partially or entirely).
