The SLU Liver Center receives significant funding from the Friends of the Saint Louis University Liver Center; since 2003, the nonprofit has raised more than $5.8 million for liver research at SLU.
Much of that funding becomes seed and bridge grants, which support investigators in the early stages of research that primarily includes:
- Viral hepatitis
- Liver cancer
- Fatty liver disease
- Iron metabolism
- Liver transplantation
The seed and bridge grants have enabled the center to secure more than $20 million in additional funding.
The nonprofit's donations have also funded new, state-of-the-art equipment to support research efforts.
