Visiting Medical Student Application Process
The Saint Louis University Plastic Surgery Division regularly has visiting medical students from both U.S. and international medical schools. All applications are processed through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) website.
Residency Application Process
This program offers two first-year integrated positions annually. We are fully accredited by the ACGME. Starting in 2022, all applications must be submitted through the Plastic Surgery Common Application (PSCA). Applicants will not be considered for an interview until all the required information has been received.
Please send any questions regarding the residency application process to our residency program coordinator, Cooper Minnis, at cooper.minnis@health.slu.edu.
Upcoming Institutional Changes
Beginning July 2023, our residencies and fellowships will be SSM Health/Saint Louis University School of Medicine programs, a change from the sponsorship that has been Saint Louis University School of Medicine. All program names will reflect this updated sponsorship title (e.g., SSM Health/Saint Louis University School of Medicine General Surgery Residency Program).
In July 2022, two of the region’s largest and most respected Catholic organizations in Saint Louis, SSM Health and Saint Louis University, embarked on a new strategic partnership to advance our clinical and academic missions. The SLUCare Physician group, along with its faculty physicians, clinical staff, and administrative staff were fully integrated into the SSM Health system to become the academic division of SSM Health-Saint Louis region. The clinicians and staff of SLUCare are now employed by SSM Health St. Louis. This partnership will grow our academic clinical practice of SLUCare and increase opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate medical education and research.
The 62 accredited residencies and fellowships will continue to operate as ACGME-accredited University programs at SSM Health and other clinic locations including the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Mercy Health system. By July 2023, residents and fellows will also integrate into the SSM Health system and will continue to perform their clinical duties under the direction of the same program directors, division chiefs, and departmental chairs. Graduates will receive a single certificate reflecting this partnership. Benefits and stipends for residents and fellows will be transitioned to the SSM Health system.
SLUCare is an award-winning academic medical practice that offers services at more than 30 locations from over 600 faculty in more than 50 specialties. Nearly 100 SLUCare physicians were recognized in Castle Connolly Top Doctors list in 2022. The SLUCare Physician Group will retain its name, and the physician faculty will continue to hold academic appointments at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. SSM Health is a nationally recognized integrated healthcare delivery system that is a leader in the delivery of high value care. Together SLUCare and SSM Health will afford residents and fellows unparalleled training opportunities that will prepare graduates for careers in a wide range of practice settings.
