SLU Theatre and Dance

Saint Louis University's theatre program collaborates as a theatrical company, fostering commitment to the group while strengthening your performance, design, direction and management abilities. SLU's dance minor investigates the expressive potential of dance as its own art form in other fields or personal practice.

Theatre Scholarships

Theatre students at SLU may apply for a Theatre Talent Scholarship. In addition to completing the scholarship application, interested students may be requested to audition, present a portfolio or interview for the award.

Scholarships are awarded annually, so you must reapply each year. You must also maintain the following requirements to keep your scholarship:

  • Major in theatre
  • Achieve a grade of "B" in all theatre coursework
  • Participate in all department productions

If you cannot audition/interview on campus, you may submit a digital audition via Acceptd.

Submit Your Digital Audition or Portfolio

If you have auditioned or interviewed at a state or international thespian conference, you do not need to re-audition or interview but still must complete the scholarship application.

Theatre and Dance Performance Experience

Each year, the theatre and dance program produces a season of plays, with students forming the company of actors, designers and technicians responsible for all aspects of the production.

Mentored and advised by faculty, you will work with other students to clearly and appropriately present your imaginative ideas to others and explore your creativity. Most importantly, you will develop a collective responsibility and commitment to your work.

About Theatre and Dance Productions

Our faculty connections help many SLU students find auditions among the 30 professional theaters around St. Louis. By branching into these communities, our theatre students enhance their education by encountering new perspectives and roles. You will also develop valuable experience to enhance your resume through internships and working with professional companies.

Alpha Psi Omega

SLU's chapter of the National Theatre Honor Society, Alpha Psi Omega, offers a way to get involved in theatre outside the classroom. Members of Alpha Psi Omega are actively involved on campus through a variety of activities, including:

  • Attending professional productions
  • Producing works written, directed and performed by students
  • Engaging in service with the St. Louis community

To be initiated into Alpha Psi Omega, you must maintain academic excellence and participate in multiple Theatre & Dance productions. For more information about SLU's Alpha Psi Omega chapter, contact Yizhou Huang at
