Alumni and Guest Resources

Library use is restricted to visitors actively engaged in legal research.

Public patrons and SLU LAW alumni are welcome to use the library for legal research as described below. Upon arrival, all library visitors must check in at the circulation or reference desk.

When classes are in session, Scott Hall is open to the public at the hours listed on the left. No public access is available on the weekends. Please call ahead for hours during breaks and holidays.

Building Access for Alumni and Special Guests

Alumni, Washington University law students and guests in other special circumstances may request access to Scott Hall for evenings and weekends by applying for a free SLU ID card. Email this form to Julie Orr at, or return it via mail.


Tours of the Law Library are available. For alumni, outside guests, Law Library Association Members and other group tours, contact director Erika Cohn at (314) 977-2759 or Tours can be catered to individual or group needs and can include information on space, collection, services and programs.


SLU LAW alumni are welcome to use a host of databases. All databases listed with a (3) designation are available for use.

SLU LAW alumni have free access to HeinOnline's Law Journal Library, a collection of more than 1,800 law and law-related journals. To access this service, log in to mySLU using your SLUnet username and password. To have a password reset, contact ITS at (314) 977-4000 or Once logged in, click the Tools tab and select the HeinOnline icon. Contact ITS with technical problems, and contact the Law Library's Reference Desk with general questions about this service or specific techniques.

Alumni and guests may be especially interested in the Westlaw Public Patron Access and Bloomberg Patron Access that can be accessed on library computers. The public also has access to Federal Depository Resources.

Borrowing Policies

SLU LAW alumni may check out circulating library resources. A SLU ID or other photo ID must be presented at the time of checkout. Representatives such as secretaries, clerks or other law firm members may not check out items with an alumni's ID. Alumni borrowing privileges do not extend to the other Saint Louis University Libraries.

  1. Books and other materials may be checked out for two weeks.
  2. Materials can be renewed once by calling (314) 977-3081 or emailing
  3. Overdue fines are $1 per day.
  4. Replacement fees for lost/damaged materials are $120.
  5. Borrowing privileges are suspended after an accumulation of $50 in fines.
