The SSM Health/Saint Louis University School of Medicine Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program offers significant operative experience with both common and unusual or difficult pediatric surgical cases.
A Message From the Program Director
Welcome to the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program. This program is designed to train future academic and/or private practice-oriented pediatric surgeons of the highest caliber, providing experience in both primary and tertiary pediatric surgical care. Fellows are prepared to independently manage cases and conduct surgical research.

Program Overview
The two-year, ACGME-accredited pediatric surgery fellowship provides comprehensive training experience in pediatric general surgery, patient evaluation and management.
Fellows train at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
- Pediatric Surgery Service (Nine Months): alternating call with the senior resident
- Additional Rotations (One Month Each):
- Neonate ICU
- Pediatric ICU
- Pediatric urology (Optional)
- Pediatric Surgery Service (Full Year): chief resident with independent clinical and operative management experience
Program Highlights
- ECMO training for newborns and older children with respiratory failure
- Complete management of PICU and NICU surgical patients
- Team leader for patients with multiple injuries
- Research opportunities, including frequent collaboration with other surgical or medical services
- Competency performing pediatric minimally invasive surgeries
- 50+ clinically oriented lectures across two-year training period

The program has one available ACGME accredited fellowship position every other year.
The program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).
