Urologic surgery integrated residents train at the following sites:
PGY-1
- General Surgery: six months
- Pediatric Urology: two months
- Urology, Oncology and Reconstruction: four months
PGY-2
- Urology, Oncology and Reconstruction: six months
- Pediatric Urology: six months
PGY-3
- Urology, Oncology and Reconstruction: six months
- General Urology: six months
PGY-4
- Pediatric Urology: four months
- Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery: two months
- Urology, Oncology and Reconstruction: six months
PGY-5 (Chief Resident)
- General Urology: six months
- Urology, Oncology and Reconstruction: six months
Didactics
Core Curriculum Conference
- When: second and fourth Wednesdays
- Faculty Lectures: focus on American Urological Association core curriculum; group discussions
- Interdisciplinary Guests: lectures from services such as nephrology or radiology
- Professional Development: occasional lectures covering:
- Medical ethics
- Biostatistics
- Research presentations
Morbidity and Mortality
- When: fourth Wednesday
- Case Review: presentations of cases resulting in death of complication; ranked using the Clavien-Dindo grading system
- Collaborative Discussion: slides discussing system improvements that could enhance patient safety, care and outcomes
Journal Club
- When: fifth Wednesday (quarterly)
- Resident and Faculty Participation: required reading and discussion of three to four articles curated by a rotating faculty member
- Resident Presentations: emphasizing study concepts, design, results and urologic importance
Genitourinary Multidisciplinary Conferences
- When: first and third Wednesdays at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital*
- Complex Case Presentations: led by radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and pathologists; presented in accordance with the specialty in which the patient first sought care
- Resident Role: responsible for adding patients to the conference schedule
*On the first Wednesday of the month, the resident rotating on pediatric urology will attend the pediatric nephrology/urology/radiology conference at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
Pediatric Nephrology/Urology/Radiology Conference
- When: first Wednesday at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital radiology conference room
- Resident Role: The resident rotating on pediatric urology will present relevant patients
Resident Grand Rounds Lecture
- When: fifth Wednesday
- Resident Role: Each PGY 2-5 resident provides a Grand Rounds-style lecture on a topic of their choosing.
