After the department’s service teaching efforts were relocated to the new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering (ISE) building, our historical home, Macelwane Hall, was renovated and reopened as a research-intensive facility.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Tools

  • AKTA Pure FPLC
  • Lyophilizer
  • Sorvall 5B Highspeed - and Optima XPN-100 Ultra - centrifuges
  • Standard gradient thermal cyclers
  • Two QuantStudio5 real time PCR machines

General Equipment

  • Walk-in cold-rooms
  • Multiple autoclaves
  • Multiple labware washers/driers

Sample Storage

  • CryoPlus 2 liquid nitrogen unit
  • Six large, community -80 degrees celsius storage

Imaging and Spectroscopy

  • Synergy H1 spectrophotometer/fluorometer with temperature regulation and
    automated injection system
  • Two iBRIGHT protein imaging systems
  • BioTek Lionheart FX automated microscope
  • Leica SP8 Confocal Microscope with resonant scanner and Lightning deconvolution
