Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pathology Fellowship

The SSM Health/Saint Louis University School of Medicine Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pathology Fellowship offers training in the diagnostic complexities and adult and pediatric hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal disease.  

Program Overview

The one-year, ACGME-accredited gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology fellowship provides exposure to a broad spectrum of biopsy and surgical specimens relating to adult and pediatric gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disease.  

Fellows train at the following sites: 

Clinical Training and Experience
  • Comprehensive Clinical Material: Gain experience with the luminal GI tract, liver, pancreas and biliary tract.
  • Specimen Range: Examine a mix of cases, from small biopsies to radical resection and transplantation.
  • Consultative Experience: Participate in outside consultation material and intraoperative consultation
Conferences and Research
  • Clinical Conferences: Participate in and present at multidisciplinary clinical conferences.
  • Clinical Research: Engage in clinical research projects, utilizing the department's extensive resources and faculty expertise.

The fellowship program offers one position each year. 

Candidates must have completed an accredited residency in anatomic pathology or anatomic pathology/clinical pathology and must be able to apply successfully for Missouri state medical licensure.
