Mapping Our Moment: An Invitation
March 31, 2026
Dear SLU faculty and staff,
This year, I have had the privilege of learning a great deal about SLU from our students, faculty, staff, University leaders, neighbors, community partners, and regional and national colleagues. Simultaneously, the strategic planning effort is taking a deep look at the internal and external opportunities and challenges we’re navigating, while work on the FY27 budget is surfacing structural financial issues we must address if we are to move forward successfully and with fidelity to SLU’s mission.
Please join me for a presentation summarizing findings from this work and a conversation about SLU’s current financial and strategic position and the opportunities before us. My hope is to build the shared knowledge and understanding we will need to successfully implement SLU’s next strategic plan, which we plan to launch this fall.

When we convene on April 23, we’ll be deep in the strategic plan development process, which is proceeding on an ambitious timeline thanks to an outstanding Steering Committee.
I thank the committee members for their hard work, analysis, and insights, as well as their deep faith in SLU’s mission and belief in the University’s bright future. I am also grateful to everyone who has contributed input through convenings, surveys, interviews, focus groups, and conversations. I look forward to updating you on the status of the plan on April 23.
Thank you for your commitment to SLU’s mission and the future we’ll build together.
Edward Feser, Ph.D.
President
