Thank You for Welcoming Us to Campus

January 16, 2025

Dear members of the SLU community,

From the moment Kathy and I took our first steps onto campus on Monday morning, we were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm.

We want to thank you for turning our short two-day visit into an experience we will remember and treasure. It was incredible to meet so many of you – in all, I think we shook the hands of nearly 1,000 Billikens.

When we arrived in the Laclede Parking Garage, we had the joy of receiving a greeting and a hug from longtime SLU staff member Mrs. Janette McKinney. We had a wonderful conversation with student leaders in the Grand Hall Dining Room. We discussed aspirations for SLU’s future with researchers, scholars, clinicians, and exceptional educators. We talked Billiken athletics with coaches and student-athletes. We were greeted by staff from across the University, and welcomed by the Jesuits and the leaders who guide this community.

We went to the South Campus, North Campus, and the law school – and we had a delightful meeting with colleagues from SLU-Madrid over Zoom. (We are counting the days until we can see them in person this fall.)

Throughout these interactions, Kathy and I heard your love for Saint Louis University and your commitment to its Jesuit mission.

We are — more than ever — thrilled to become Billikens.

Kathy and I are profoundly grateful for President Fred and Dr. Fran Pestello’s gracious welcome to campus. I look forward to working with President Pestello and his leadership team in the months ahead to ensure a seamless transition.

We will see you again on July 1.

With best wishes,

Edward Feser, Ph.D.
