MPH Virtual Visit Day

The College for Public Health and Social Justice will host a virtual visit day for its Master of Public Health degree program on Friday, March 5.

Day’s Schedule

12:30 p.m., Bernie Backer, director of admissions, Welcome and introductions.

12:35 p.m., Tom Burroughs, Ph.D., dean, will present the following overview:

Overview of the College for Public Health and Social Justice (CPHSJ) mission and organizational structure; how the CPHSJ’s emphasis on transformational leadership makes it unique and special among other public health schools and programs; and how we are adapting to meet future needs of the public health workforce in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

12:45 p.m., Michael Elliott, Ph.D., associate dean of public health, will discuss the program’s faculty, collaborations with community partners and students, and will introduce department chairs.

Zhengnin “Min” Qian, Ph.D., M.D., chair, Department of Epidemiology, will follow Elliott and will offer brief program descriptions in areas including biosecurity and disaster preparedness, biostatistics, Epidemiology, and maternal and child Health

Ricardo Wray, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Behavioral Science and Health Education, will briefly describe the programs in behavioral science and health education and the program in global health.

1 p.m., Anne Sebert Kuhlmann, Ph.D., director of MPH Program, will speak about the program including the exceptional MPH learning experience; the MPH in Health Management and Policy, joint and dual degree options, STEM Opt. 3 designations. Her description includes the ways our current students and their hands-on involvement in projects with faculty and community partners; student organizations; and St. Louis as the nation’s best place for studying public health.

1:20 p.m., Laura Schrubb and Allese McVay, Student Success Team, who will discuss advising; mentoring; student services; professional development resources; local, national and international internship experiences; and career placements.

1:30 p.m., Q and A Session with current MPH students in which current students will briefly describe why they chose SLU and their program experiences followed by open discussion and informal Q and A time.

2 p.m., Conclusion.
