Neuro@Noon,, the Neuroscience Journal Club at Saint Louis University, will be presented by Silviya Zustiak, Ph.D., at noon on Thursday, March 5, in Room M360, Schwitalla Hall.
Zustiak will present an article published in New Journal of Chemistry “Electrically conductive nanocomposite hydrogels embedded with functionalized carbon nanotubes for spinal cord injury.”
The authors developed electrically conductive conduits as promising strategy for treatment of human spinal cord injury. Nerve conduits were created by placing Carbon NanoTubes within the hydrophilic substrate Poly(Ethylene Glycol)-Acrylate (CNTpega). Cellular studies using CNTpega showed that they exhibited good cytocompatibility and enhanced neuronal attachment and proliferation that may help repair an injured spinal cord.
