The Art History Program in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts will host a lecture by Carolyn Valone, Ph.D., at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 27, in Boileau Hall. Valone’s talk is “Women at the Gesù in Renaissance Rome.”
Valone is a former SLU faculty member and is professor emerita at Trinity University. Residing again in St. Louis after living in Italy for 22 years, Valone's work on “matrons and patrons” and pie donne was considered groundbreaking in the 1990s.
Her continuing research on women as patrons of art and architecture has pioneered a methodological approach that many scholars have followed.
A reception will follow the lecture. The talk is free and open to the public.
