Online Workshop: 'Get on Board! Making a Difference Through Nonprofit Leadership'

The Office of Career Services will host, “Get On Board: Making a Difference Through Nonprofit Leadership,” a program about how you can make a difference in our community and affect change through nonprofit leadership and service purpose, online at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The program’s purpose is to educate students about the fundamentals of non-profit board service and to provide an opportunity for members to interact with community leaders about the roles and expectations of Board service.

The program will feature an overview from SLU’s Service Leadership Program and an educational session led by the United Way of Greater St. Louis Volunteer Center.

This opportunity would be open to all SLU Students interested in leadership opportunities in the St. Louis region.

Program Outcomes and Learning Objectives:

Program participants will gain the following knowledge through this program:

  • To increase awareness of the purpose and tasks of non-profit Boards
  • To gain insight into the roles and responsibilities of Board members
  • To appreciate the personal commitment required of board members
  • To learn from colleagues and community leaders about their own personal experiences, lessons learned and best practices regarding Board service
  • To assess participants’ readiness to serve on Boards and to discuss next steps

  • Governance Quality Standards
  • Board Structure
  • Understanding Roles
  • Determining Readiness to Serve

The sessions will be followed by panel discussion and agency networking opportunities.
