The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience will present a Joint Grand Rounds from 8 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, via Zoom.
Alan R. Felthous, M.D., will present “Psychopathy and the Realpolitik of the Insanity Defense.”
Felthous is professor and director of forensic psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience in the School of Medicine. Felthous has written numerous journal articles and book chapters and co-edited special journal issues on psychopathy and clinical aggression.
Although not claiming fluency, he has given invited international lectures on psychopathic disorders and clinical aggression in five languages. For the first edition of the International Handbook on Psychopathic Disorders and the Law, he and his co-editor were awarded the Guttmacher Award by the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. The second edition, The Wiley International Handbook on Psychopathic Disorders and the Law was published this year.
He has conducted research on abnormal research in five states. Felthous is past president of the Association of Directors of Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Programs, past vice president of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, past president of the American Board of Forensic Psychiatry and past president of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.
