Dr. Newman received his M.D. from Vanderbilt University. He completed his general psychiatry residency at Washington University in Saint Louis and his forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Newman is Interim Chair and Professor of Psychiatry at Saint Louis University. As a forensic psychiatrist, Dr. Newman routinely conducts both civil and criminal forensic psychiatric assessments. He was President of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL), the primary organization for forensic psychiatrists in North America, from 2019-2020. He further serves on the Executive Council of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training (AADPRT).
