Alpha Epsilon Delta will present a distinguished lecture “Breaking the Silence: A Candid Look at Race and Violence in America - Dallas, July 7, 2016,” at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Busch Student Center's Saint Louis Room (third floor).

Brian H. Williams, M.D., is the distinguished lecturer for the event. Williams is an associate professor of surgery in the Division of Burn/Trauma/Critical Care at UT Southwestern.

Williams' talk will describe how “codeswitching” is utilized by African-Americans as a means of assimilation as well as the cumulative effect of “microaggressions” on mental health. Participants will be challenged to identify their own silence in regard to racial prejudice and identify ways to utilize their own voices.
