Feast of St. Blaise and Blessing of Throats

Friday, 03 February, 2017

Campus Ministry will host throat blessings at multiple times on Friday, Feb. 3.

Every year on Feb. 3 the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr. One of the more famous stories from his life is that he healed a young boy choking on a fish bone. Because of this, a tradition arose on his feast day that of people have their throats blessed for protection against diseases.

Blessing time and locations are:

  • 12:30 p.m. outside of St. Raphael Chapel on the second floor of the School of Medicine after the 12:05 p.m. Mass
  • 1 p.m. in the Lobby of the School of Nursing
  • 1:30 p.m. in the Lobby of Doisy College of Health Sciences near room 1043 (auditorium)
