'ArchCity Defenders: Combatting State Violence and the Criminalization of Poverty'

McGannon Hall

3750 Lindell Blvd
St. Louis, MO 63108
United States

Rebecca Gorley will present "ArchCity Defenders: Combatting State Violence and the Criminalization of Poverty" at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in Room 144 at McGannon Hall.

If you wanted a system to make people poor, and keep people poor, look no further than St. Louis. Since 2009, ArchCity Defenders has represented the poor and homeless, filed class action lawsuits, and led policy and media advocacy efforts to challenge the abuses within the criminal justice system, such as debtors’ prisons, cash bail, and police misconduct.

Gorley, communications director for ArchCity Defenders and a SLU American Studies and Social Work graduate, will lead an engaging conversation about the stories, issues and impact unique to ArchCity Defenders.

The event is sponsored by ACTIO and the Department of Women's and Gender Studies.
