The Art History Speaker Series will host Bonnie Pitman, M.A., distinguished scholar in residence at the Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History for a talk at 4:30 p.m., Sept. 26, in the Pitlyk Auditorium A, Learning Resources Center.
Pitman, co-director of the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Museums at the University of Texas at Dallas, will present “The Art of Examination: Art and Medicine Explored.”
Pitman’s work deals with the ways museums use their collections in developing close observation of works of art to enhance the diagnostic skills needed for medical practice. The interactive presentation will seek to engage those attending in the critical examination of works of art to demonstrate how the identification of key pieces of data, pattern recognition and interpretation of meaning are key elements in medical decision making.
A reception will follow.
