The English Club will host a presentation and discussion, “Gender, Democracy, Antigone” prior to the premiere of the University Theatre production of the Greek tragedy from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, in Room 142, Adorjan Hall.
Jennifer Rush, Ph.D., will speak on the significance and timeliness of Sophocles’s play and its relation to contemporary issues of social justice, civil disobedience, politics and gender.
Those attending the presentation and discussion are also invited to attend the opening of Antigone in Xavier Hall at 8 p.m.
The presentation marks the first event in the English Club’s English in the World Series.
