Natalie Douglass, DMA, an assistant professor of horn and brass coordinator at Utah Valley University will present “Teaching and Performing with the Inner Ear,” at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Black Box Theatre, Xavier Hall. The free, public event is sponsored by the Music Program in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
Douglass’s lecture will connect aural skills to applied study and performance by building musicianship with activities inspired by her Fulbright grant to study at the Kodaly Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy in Hungary. With a primary area of research in the development of pedagogical approaches to connect aural skills training to brass instruction, she has published and given masterclasses on this topic at universities and workshops around the United States and at the 2014 International Horn Society International Symposium in London.
