Toast of SLU, Saint Louis University's Toastmasters Club, will be hosting a guest speaker event featuring David Hakanson, vice president, CIO and chief innovation officer.
The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, in HR training room 128 located in the Marvin and Harlene Wool Center. Faculty and staff are invited to attend.
Hakanson has extensive experience in the area of Information Technology having served in several executive leadership roles, and plays a critical role in supporting SLU’s academic and research enterprise. During his presentation, Hakanson will share his perspective of the importance of communication in his role, and his experience and background on speaking engagements
D. C. Cooper, president of the Toast of SLU Toastmasters Club, shared that the club has conducted several guest speaker events that have featured several University vice presidents who have been well received. The events have provided a unique opportunity for attendees to learn about the importance of communication from leaders here at SLU.
"We are all looking forward to hearing Mr. Hakanson’s presentation," Cooper said. "He has demonstrated leadership by helping the University navigate the ever-changing technology landscape by utilizing technology strategically as a way to differentiate SLU."
The Toast of SLU club is a chapter of Toastmasters International, a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations.
SLU's club for current and retired faculty and staff has been in existence since October 2013 and includes members from various departments throughout the university.
