This faculty-student roundtable will discuss three different personal experiences of immersing oneself in Russian culture with photographic and anecdotal evidence. A question and answer session on the benefits of cultural immersion will follow. Speakers include Dr. Elizabeth Blake, coordinator of the Russian Studies program, a graduating Russian major Emma Smith, and a Russian minor Brandon Redmann.
All of the speakers have come to the Russian program at SLU through different means of language acquisition, which is an important topic for migration. Language and cultural barriers can create conflict, especially when the conversation involves interlocutors whose native languages differ. On the other hand, common experiences, values, and belief systems can transcend these barriers.
The event will be in the Busch Student Center Room 251A.
