Students, faculty, and all SLU community members are invited to take part in this unique and meaningful event. Through foods, cultural activities, presentations, and the good company of others, we will promote and celebrate the mission of Warm Hugs: Blankets with Love, a charitable organization founded by Cecille Figueroa and Dasha Peñas in 2016. Warm Hugs seeks to raise money to provide blankets to Hispanic immigrant children, and since its founding in Dayton, Ohio, its mission has spread throughout the greater Midwest area, arriving in St. Louis at the hands of Figueroa’s brother, Jose, a Wash. U student. Jose will speak to us about the organization’s mission, the assistance it seeks, and the tangible and warm (both literally and figuratively) effect that our participation will have for those who really need it. Together, we will embrace the mission of this organization, and stand in solidarity with our fellow immigrants and friends. This event will involve a fundraiser, through which we hope to raise the money for blankets which we will then distribute to such organizations as Oasis, International Institute, and Kingdom House, among other charitable entities in the greater St. Louis area.
For more information about Warm Hugs, see its Facebook page. We hope you will join us in this multi-organizational effort, and together we will spread the love and warmth that this world deserves.
The event will be in the Busch Student Center Room 253B.
