'La Fe: Latino Catholicism in the Midwest'

The Cultures of American Religion Group will hold a half-day event, “La Fe: Latino Catholicism in the Midwest,” on Tuesday, April 30, in Boileau Hall.  

This event is the result of graduate student initiative and labor, and is in collaboration with Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in Ferguson, Missouri. “La Fe” aims to begin an interesting and important conversation on Latino/a faith and community in the region, and is an opportunity to come together over good food.

The event is free, and all are welcome.

Event Schedule:

  • 4 p.m. " Keynote lecture, “Practices of Hospitality: Latinos, Faith, and Community in the Midwest,” by Sergio Gonzalez, Ph.D., assistant professor of history, Marquette University.
  • 5 p.m. " Dinner reception featuring Mexican food catered by a parishioner from Our Lady of Guadalupe parish.
  • 5:45 p.m. " “La Fe in St. Louis” panel discussion with panelists Sr. Cathy Doherty, pastoral associate, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Sofia Gonzalez, parishioner, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Kris Walentik, attorney, St. Francis Community Services, and Rubén Rosario Rodríguez, Ph.D. of the Department of Theological Studies, Saint Louis University.
  • 7:10 p.m. " Performance by the Matachines from Our Lady of Guadalupe parish. The performance will be followed by a reflection and Q&A with the dancers.
  • 7:45 p.m. " dessert reception.
