The Fourth Annual William S. Sly Lecture given by Emil Kakkis, M.D., Ph.D., founder, president and director of Ultragenyx Pharamceuticals, Inc., will take place at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the Allied Health Professions Building.
Ultragenyx focuses on developing therapeutics for rare and ultra-rare metabolic, bone, muscle and neurologic diseases with no approved treatments.
The lecture is named in honor of William Sly, M.D., who served as chair of Biochemistry for 26 years. His pioneering research in the field of mucopolysaccharidosis has led to enzyme replacement therapy for patients with ultra-rare genetic diseases.
